Advent is celebrated in Germany rather more than in Britain, and includes traditions such as a decorated Adventkranz with its candles. To mark this season, we held an Advent Choir afternoon, when you could listen to a medley of carols and other Christmas songs from the U3A Songbirds. In this special performance, they were joined by the Choir from Rustington Community Primary School.
It was a wonderful occasion, the highlights of which were the carols sung together by the Songbirds and the Choir. As on previous occasions, the children had learned some German carols, and their rendition of “Stille Nacht” (Silent Night) received a rapturous reception. The last carol was “Oh Come all ye Faithful”, in which the audience joined with enthusiasm. At the end of the performance, mulled wine and mince pies were served to the audience.
