Newsletter Winter 2017

Hello Everybody,

All the members of the twinning committee and I wish you a very happy, peaceful and prosperous 2018.  We hope that you had a good Christmas with friends and family and were able to relax after the run-up to the festivities.

Last year has been a busy and eventful one.  For the first time we started a Bingo evening which was great fun and the local twinning group’s quiz night, which took place in East Preston, is now firmly established.  Sadly, East Preston is going to cease their partnership with France this year but we hope to maintain active contact with the group.

A group of 15 members visited Künzell in May and I would like to take the opportunity to re-state that any member of the Association can apply to join the party.  Places will obviously be limited and it will always be on a first-come basis.  A report of the visit was given in the Summer Newsletter.

We held various events throughout the year which were well attended but most of all good fun, the last one being the Advent Celebration, with a ladies choir from the U3A and a choir of 70+ children from our member school, the Rustington Community Primary School.  Both choirs sang beautifully and were very much appreciated by everyone.  It was a fitting end to a busy year.

Here are some dates for your diaries of events that we hope to arrange for you. Exact details with times, venues and food served will be announced before the events with a flyer.

27th January, Bingo

24th February Joint Quiz, arranged by and in Littlehampton

13th March AGM

Please remember to book the events in time as they are popular and sold out quickly.  You can book tickets with any member of the committee.  Please see our website www.rustingtontwinning.org.uk for members’ details and other information.

A decision has to be made in respect of the request to start a twinning partnership with a village in France not later than early March.  A letter addressing this issue has been published in the Parish newsletter and twice in the magazine “All About Rustington” and we have had some very positive feedback from individuals.  Therefore a meeting will take place with all interested parties to make a final decision.  The next newsletter will report on the outcome of this meeting.

To ensure the stability of our association we look forward to your continued support.  Any ideas about fundraising events are always welcome, regardless how big or small.  Please contact the committee and tell us about it.

Although I do not intend to leave the committee, I am looking for someone to take over my role.  There are many new thoughts in the discussion stage on how to improve the twinning principle and how to get the message through to young people, and I would like to see a new chairman in this role that is able to take these new thoughts on board and make them happen.  Please don’t forget to be at the AGM to cast your vote.

Perhaps it is also a good time to remind you that membership renewals are now due with £7.00 for individuals, £12.00 for a family and £15.00 for Corporate Membership
